Ready for the Road? Why April Is the Time to Service Your Camper
Tuesday 24th March 2026
April is the month when campervan and motorhome owners are looking ahead to weekends away, bank holiday breaks and longer summer trips. It is also the month when reality needs to catch up with ambition, camper and motorhome servicing should be in owners minds. There is no point planning the perfect escape if the vehicle itself has not been properly prepared for the season.
A lot can happen while a camper or motorhome is standing still. Tyres lose pressure, batteries discharge, seals dry out, and small damp issues can become expensive ones if they go unnoticed. That is why April feels like the right moment to act. The weather is improving, the season is beginning, and there is still time to sort things before your diary fills up.
There are some sensible checks every owner can do themselves. Start with the basics. Check tyre pressures and inspect the sidewalls for cracking or damage. Do not forget the spare. Recharge and test both the vehicle battery and the leisure battery. Run the water system through, flush it properly, and make sure there are no leaks around taps, pumps or pipework. Test the lights, wipers and washers. Open every locker, inspect the seals and look carefully for any signs of damp or water ingress. Give the vehicle a proper clean as well, because dirt can hide problems and a clean motorhome makes it much easier to spot them.
Inside, it is worth checking that appliances are working as they should, especially after a period of winter storage. Heating, fridge operation, gas systems and electrical functions all need attention before you head off and hope for the best. It is always better to find a fault on your driveway than on the first trip of the year.
But here is the thing. Owner checks are useful, and they absolutely have their place, but they are not a substitute for proper servicing. This time of year, servicing means you are ready for a trouble free season. That is the real priority.
At Oldfields, we know how easy it is for people to focus on the fun bits first. Packing the kit, planning the route, booking the site. Yet the smartest owners do it the other way round. They make sure the mechanical side is right, the safety checks are done, and the vehicle is fit for purpose before the adventures begin.
A campervan or motorhome is there to give you freedom. Proper servicing helps protect that freedom. It gives you confidence, reduces the risk of breakdowns, and helps make sure your season starts for the right reasons. April is the perfect time to do it.
