Oldfields Garage is once again uniting the UK’s automotive aftermarket in support of the ELY Memorial Fund’s annual Young Driver Experience, taking place from 21 – 25 July at Herefordshire, Ludlow & North Shropshire College.

Now a cornerstone of the fund’s road safety efforts, the five-day event is aimed at educating 14 to 17-year-olds across Herefordshire about the responsibilities of driving. It combines practical driving sessions on a closed course with interactive workshops covering essential topics such as basic car maintenance, first aid, and the dangers of drink- and drug-driving, delivered in partnership with West Mercia Police.

Tim will deliver a series of talks on proactive vehicle maintenance, helping attendees understand how regular checks and upkeep contribute directly to road safety.

“The Young Driver Experience is really about setting young people up with good habits from the start,” said Tim. “When I talk to them about car maintenance, it’s about helping them realise that safety starts before you even turn the key. It’s about knowing your car, spotting problems early, and taking responsibility every time, you get behind the wheel.”

This year’s event is supported by several leading automotive brands, reflecting the industry’s shared commitment to supporting future drivers. Castrol, PAGID, Schaeffler, HELLA, LKQ Euro Car Parts and Ring have all donated giveaways, which Tim will be awarding as prizes during the vehicle maintenance sessions.

“I’m really grateful to the brands who’ve come on board to support this year’s event,” Tim added. “Their generosity helps make the sessions more engaging for those taking part, and it shows that the wider industry truly cares about educating the next generation of drivers. Every attendee will take away a goodie bag with items from the Automotive Aftermarket and those that really engage will get a extra special bag with wireless headphones, speakers and more!”

The ELY Memorial Fund was established in memory of Emma Louise Young, who tragically lost her life in a road collision at the age of 23. Alongside offering financial support to local families who have lost a child in a road traffic accident, the fund is committed to reducing fatalities among young drivers through early education and awareness.

Ange Tyler, founder of the ELY Memorial Fund and mother of Emma, said: “We’re delighted to see the Young Driver Experience grow year on year, with continued backing from people like Tim and his industry partners. The goal is to reach young people before they get behind the wheel, to shape attitudes and save lives.”
